The Datalogic QuickScan QD2130 has been designed for durability. It uses a linear imager instead of a laser. Linear imagers have no moving parts so they are stronger than lasers. Linear imagers are just as fast as lasers and the read range is from near contact to more than 30cm. This linear imager is able to read all the popular barcode types, including the new GS1 Databar. The Databar is likely to gain ground in the future as the code includes more information about items such as best before dates and pack quantities. Retailers will start to include Databar on products sold in the shops. The QD2130 is able to read these small Databar codes.
One of the most vulnerable features of any scanner is damage to the scan window. The QD2130 comes with a 'field replaceable' window. In other words, it can be replaced by the user. No need to send it back.
The QuickScan QD2130 has a green spot indicator. When a barcode is read successfully a green dot is projected on to the code. This is useful in a noisy environment.
