Here are three ways to make the annual stock check faster, easier and more accurate, using barcodes.

Cordless memory scanner

Using a cordless memory scanner such as the Cino F680BT you can avoid the need to tick boxes, write down numbers and key in all the data.  Most cordless scanners have a memory mode so they collect data without transmitting it back to the computer.  Alternatively use the wireless connection to update your computer in real time.

Using these scanners you can automatically type your stock data into the fields in your stock management software (providing it can accept just stock codes) without you touching the keyboard.  Another option is saving the barcodes into a spreadsheet or text file for uploading to the computer.  Again, this option is fast and easy – all you need do is scan a couple of set up barcodes and the data is sent to the PC as if you’d spent hours typing it in.

One limitation with cordless scanners is that you can’t enter stock quantities using a memory scanner.

This is a quick solution to the problem of stock checking.  With minimal set up required, if you buy online today you’ll be using your scanner tomorrow, but don’t leave it until next month as we might have sold out. They are on sale at the moment for just $599, internet only special.

Simple handheld barcode terminals

By using a simple handheld scanner you can collect the barcodes and stock quantities in the fraction of the time it takes with paper and pen.  There are plenty of handheld terminals out there, but for stock check, simple is usually best.  For most stock checks all you need to collect is the product code (barcode) and quantity and usually not a lot more.

Our best selling Optimus handhelds are small, easy to use and sell for less than you’d expect.  If you need a more robust terminal, choose the Optimus R but for retail situations the Optimus S is a cost effective choice.   Data is downloaded into a text file or with a couple of extra clicks you can have your data in Excel.  You can program these yourself or you can ask us to do it for you, either way, you’ll be operational with a simple program in a few hours.

A complete inventory solution.

Pick & Send is a complete online solution to the inventory challenge.  Your data is hosted for you and by using a webbrowser on a PC or handheld you can access your inventory information in your warehouse, office or on the move.  All stock records update the computer straight away and it can be configured to take orders from your sales system and guide you through picking the order.

Doing a stock take using Pick & Send needn’t be something you do in March.  Imagine being able to check stock a little and often.  Every few months Pick & Send prompts you to count an item of stock as you’re picking and it keeps track of what needs to be checked and what’s been done.  Over the course of a year Pick & Send may have prompted you to check items two, three or four times – and it’s more efficient than devoting a whole day or weekend to it.
