Sometimes clients are looking for barcode solutions that aren't available off the shelf. Here are some of our custom made solutions to help clients solve mobility, inventory or asset problems. In all of our projects we work hard to achieve deadlines and budget. Our projects are small and simple with specific aims agreed with our clients. We made the decision to make all our work web based, so it is scalable, can run on different hardware and can be shared.
Browser-based Tool (Asset) Management:
Our client is a progressive New Zealand construction company who needed a way to monitor around 500 tools (drills, chainsaws and so on) that were being taken in and out on a daily basis by around 30 staff. The system has 2 parts, the client screen and the administration screen.
Client screen
- Staff scan a barcode indicating whether they are bringing an item in or out, scan their ID then scan the item(s).
- A list of scanned items are shown on screen.
- A warning appears if an item marked as defective on the system is scanned.
- A warning appears if an items, close to it's electrical test date is scanned.
Administration screen
The administrator can:
- Create users/items.
- History of who took out what and when can be seen.
Reports can be generated showing.
- Who has what.
- What items a certain person has.
- What assets are defective and
- What assets are due for their electrical test.
The system was put together in under a month on budget. The client wanted to be able to view the information from a number of PCs and decided a browser-based solution would be best. In this case the client hosted the data themselves, but this could easily be hosted on a public server, allowing staff to view data from any internet connected device (including smart phones).

Browser-based Item Tracking System:
Our client is a young company that specialises in professional two way radio distribution. They needed a way to track serial numbers and packing details. When they scanned a serial number they wanted to see details of whom and where the item went to.
Public Screen
Enter details and search for item.
Administration Screen
Enter items that are going out as an order.

PC and handheld Inventory Management:
Our client already has a powerful inventory management system from a company called TechnologyOne. Inputs to the system however were not being done regularly. They needed a simple front end system that did issuing, stocktake and location transfers and that can be used by anyone using the stores.
We developed a mobile add on that took the power of TechnologyOne into the workplace.
Using PCs and handheld terminals, our client was able to
- Issue items.
- Transfer locations.
- Stocktake.
TechOne.
For TechnologyOne to work with our data we needed to export a CSV file formatted for TechOne with the transaction information. Items, Locations, Cost Codes, and Stocktake lists are exported from TechOne and automatically read by our system to update it's data.

Hire Company Browser-based Tracking System:
Our client needed a way to scan items that their customers wanted to hire. They wanted to be able to take the handheld terminal into the yard, collect the data and transfer it back to the PC in the office. They wanted to minimise the mistakes they encountered in a paper based system and speed up the whole process, automating as much as possible.
PC
- Create items and new clients.
- Show hire information: currently on-hire assets, asset hire history and history of hires and payments by clients.
Handheld
- Select client, select items to be hired and for how long.
- Capture the customers signature on the terminal
- Send data back to the PC.
The PC application is browser-based and can easily be shared on the client's network or more widely on the internet.
